This class is ideal for representational artists who want to better master color in order to achieve a sense of light, atmosphere, and form.   Students will learn the art of seeing and painting based on the proven method of color studies developed by Charles Hawthorne and further refined by Henry Hensche.  Moreover, students will learn processes that simplify complex skills, resulting in technical freedom.
 
The emphasis of this class is on understanding color relationships -- how to see and paint color relationships (as opposed to local colors) and how to key paintings to effectively capture the impression of light.  Issues related to drawing and painting, such as composition, values, edges, and paint handling will be investigated at length.
 
Students will first become acquainted with the exercise of color studies.  As they gain understanding and control of the process, they will move on to finished paintings.
